Mission Statement:
To promote and enhance the economic well being of all citizens, businesses and industry in Fayette, Lamar and Pickens counties through effective planning and proven development strategies.
The West Alabama Economic Development Authority (WAEDA) is a quasi-public agency encompassing three counties in West Alabama. The counties represented by the organization include Fayette, Lamar and Pickens counties. WAEDA was formed in October 2000 by state statute, with the sole purpose of promoting economic development throughout the tri-county region.
Due to creation of the organization by state statute, the authority has the ability to provide access to numerous incentives available through the State of Alabama and local governments. Incentives may include tax abatements for sales, use and property taxes as well as grants for infrastructure.
The authority is directed by a nine-member board of directors that meet on a bi-monthly basis. The board employs a full-time executive director as the professional to lead and administer board policy.
