The Fayette Campus of Bevill State Community College serves approximately 1,000 students each semester with two-year academic and technical degrees available in many programs. Within one hour is the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa; Mississippi University For Women in Columbus; and Mississippi State University in Starkville.

Within one hour of Lamar county is The University of North Alabama, in Florence well-known as a teachers and music college, and a branch of The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) is located in Tupelo, Mississippi.



Pickens County is comprised of four towns: Aliceville, Carrollton, Reform, and Gordo. The school system has four elementary schools, one middle school, and three high schools.  The school system employs around 200 certified staff and 200 support staff.

It is Pickens County's mission to ensure an environment where every learner reaches a high level of academic achievement as determined by local, state, and national standards.  We commit to a comprehensive support system to ensure this outcome.
